Sooo some time ago ( months and months ago! ) I bought a folding table from impact housing costing the bargain price of £3! Alan started to renovate it and it was sanded down..then life took over and I kept forgetting to get the paint needed and Alan had other things that took his time.
It was used in that state for quite some time and very useful it was too. Kept things off the sofa, perfect to bring out when needed and easy to move away when I finished working... Eventually I went back to Impact housing for something else and remembered they had a room of paints.... A whole room of full unopened tins of paint at rock bottom prices! I knew what I wanted - a kind of french shabby chic blue or green - I found two possibles and eventually plumped for one called mellow sage for £3.00 ( would have been about £16 new ) So a bargain and this week - as Alan is off on holiday - the table is being painted:)
Although it is called mellow sage and looked quite green on the tin it is going on a really lovely blue/green shade and I am looking forward to seeing it finished.
In the background you get a glimpse of my crafty corner :) The space where I will finish off all the things I make...
I do love looking at other peoples workspaces so I thought I would show you yet another area that is a work in progress ..
In the 16 years we have lived here, this room has had many changes. As I began to edit the pictures for this post I had a flood of happy memories..
From a garage it was refurbished when Milly was a baby and became a second sitting room/dining room/playroom. The floor always filled with toys and a small garden slide that lived indoors because sliding was one of the things Milly loved to do the most :) Pop up tents and a mini trampoline. We also fitted in a small dining table. Bookcases ( the ones in the picture ) filled with boxes of craft and toys. Such happy fun filled times that seem like they happened yesterday!
As Milly grew this room morphed to fit the needs of a growing social life and we bought an eight foot table so we could have groups of friends round. Many parties were enjoyed with toddlers at the table and Mum's gathered around chatting and drinking tea in the few quiet moments they were eating :)
When we began our Home education journey much more storage was needed and more bookcases were purchased and they now fill a whole wall. The table was used for science experiments, painting, crafts. Projects/games would stay out and be moved to one end of the table and if we could make space we would eat at the other...
On to the craft area..Created on a budget..
After many months of visiting I found a perfect table for only £20 at Impact Housing - I can't recommend them highly enough and if you have one near you take a trip along and see what you can find :) - The semi circle shape fits like it was made for the area. The two bookcases were cleared and I started to fill them with crafty goodies.
It's all a bit chaotic at the moment! I have asked Alan to make me a couple more shelves so I can fit in all my packaging ( stored on the chair at the moment ) I have to sort out storage boxes to keep all my completed products in.. I have been putting this off as it involves sorting soft toys out in Millys room to use the plastic boxes they are in and is a bit of a marathon job. The good news is that it will swell the amount of Ebay products we have to sell... The bad news is that it will swell the ebay products we have to sell!!! The spare room is once again overrun with things waiting to list and the moment taking time out to try and list everything is not going to happen.. Ahh well, once I get all the Lusciously jobs done I will have that to look forward to ;)))
Cheap but cheerful storage boxes brighten the shelves and I will be making some kind of storage along the top shelf. I have been keeping all the jam/coffee jars to store buttons and beads in and eventually will get round to spray painting the lids so they look a lot better :)
The wall behind the desk was painted white a couple of years ago and over time has been decorated by Milly and her friends and Cousin :) A work of art that they are keen to keep. When we redecorated the room last year we carefully painted above it ....
I need a large pinboard above the desk to use for my yearly planner and to pin up inspirational images and ideas for colour combinations. I will also plan out the seasonal things I intend to make well in advance and have images/ideas of them pinned up so I can buy the yarn/ fabric in time to start making! I have ordered some cork tiles and Alan - I know he is an indispensable part of this Lusciously operation;) - is going to get some light mdf and beading and create a 60" x 50" pinboard.
The artwork will be saved behind it :)
On the shelf of the desk ( it didn't come with the desk, we had it in the spare room, unused from an ikea desk we have in the living room and luckily it fitted the new desk ) I have beads and charms ready to add a bit of sparkle :) A candle ready to burn for when I am sitting here and on the desk there is room for the laptop ( when I clear the growing pile of paperwork/invoices ) so I can listen to the radio or watch catch up TV to pass the time...
So more work to do before it is finished.. I will let you see the result in a later post :)
I learnt a new skill this week :) Crochet in the round baffled me and for ages and after first trying it - getting so very frustrated - I gave it a wide berth. I had an idea and for it to work I needed to create a basket, so I decided to give it another go. Would never have guessed it but it all just flowed and before I knew it a basket ( or two ) was born :))
