Pokes head around blogland door...Is anybody there?
How on earth did two months go by? Well...things have been a bit hectic here with one thing and another. Sadly sales haven't been in the hectic category over the holiday period but that was expected. All the sales and bargains that the larger retailers have at this time of year is a great indicator that sales have slowed down. Although I could have joined in with that strategy at this stage in the business I simply can't compete with the significant reductions they offer and of course they have such huge volumes of sales that they will still make money.
All things considered I decided not to reduce prices.
Things are already picking back up again.
I recently started a yarn pack of the week and the Rico creative aran cotton one pictured above is on offer at the moment. I might have to make them 'yarn packs of the month' though as I frequently forget to change them each week ;)
I have the most amazingly loyal bunch of customers and cannot thank you all enough for sticking by me :) I love the chats by email, text, instagram, facebook and through here with the contact form and some of you leave me the nicest notes on your orders :)
A wave to all my new customers who have joined us in the last few months:)
Thank you all <3
Well, how can I fill in what has been going on in the last few months? Hmmm, in a nutshell, I can't :)
The usual day to day life struggles we all face have been a little bit more of a struggle than I would like but life is like that isn't it. Rough and smooth have to be experienced and although it can be tough lessons are learnt and growth happens through both :)
One amazing thing that has kept me very busy is that I was awarded the grant i applied for! Thank goodness for Britain's energy coast and Jacqui at W.I.S.E for her continued help and her patience and understanding of my wooly brain function.
I have been able to go ahead and find a room to move into and the grant will pay towards some new bookcases for wool storage and a significant amount is going towards a brand new website. I am so very excited to start. The very lovely and talented Sophie Kitty in Pink will be coming to see me soon so we can plan the first stage.
I am really proud of the website I created from scratch but there are limitations to my skills and as I grow it is important that the website is easily found and is as good as it can be. I hope we can come up with a fresh and beautiful design which gives you a good shopping experience that is easy to navigate and has a relaxed and friendly feel to it.
The room - or my studio as I am calling it ;) - is close to home and is a perfect next step. I have looked at a few in Cockermouth and although they were bigger they had long leases which I can't really commit to yet. My studio is compact and bijou but will hold more yarn than I am able to at home and all being well I will hold workshops there for adults and children. I will have open days where locals can come and chat, eat cake and drink tea and perhaps buy some yarn :) The main problem I have is that it would be a very slow purchase as all my stock is online and I would have to take each item out of stock as it is purchased so it doesn't cause problems with online purchases. I have to think that process through but if there is tea and cake involved maybe people won't mind a nice leisurely sale experience :) I have had so many offers of help that perhaps I could have assistants on those days :)
There will also be weekly knit and natter groups.
All this will take time to achieve but I hope to be able to get in and start decorating in October. Here it is in it's raw state! A canvas ready to be yarnified :) I have a headful of ideas and an empty purse so it will have to be a process over a couple of months.
There have been so many other things that have had to be worked through to get me to this point and there are a million and one other things to get me further down the road to this room.
I have so many new yarns that I want to stock. The list just keeps growing!
My wonderful parents gave me a very generous gift and that will help to extend the range I offer but in the world of wool it will soon be eaten up. I am working hard to research the brands that I think will work well with those I already stock and have dreams of the designer brands I want to stock. I have info on indie dyed yarn that one day will grace the shelves. I have a range of wooden buttons all ready to list and should hopefully get round to those this week. I also have info on another range of fabulous, quality buttons that I hope to buy in soon. I need to stock a range of knitting needles....
All the work that has gone into research and planning and dreaming has occurred in the last few months so maybe it was a good thing that sales slowed down to give me space and time to enable me to plan all those things.
Life is funny like that..the things that could be feared or seen as bad luck are sometimes actually happening to enable change to happen and new paths to be walked.
However, I can't lie....I am very happy with the upturn in sales :)
