When she was about 5 ( I think ) she chose the CD of 100 kid's Christmas songs that has become our soundtrack to putting the tree up.. Terrible cover songs but it just isn't the same without it ;))
She wasn't fussed about being there to choose the tree today so we left her snoozing and headed off to pick it up. When we returned we spent time wrapping all Milly's presents and one for family in Yorkshire that has to go tomorrow. I decided to make a quick addition to the package and included a little crochet decoration with an Angel charm on for a special girl to hang above her bed :)
Rudolph has been with us for many years and is still going strong. He alternates between the living room window and the dining room depending on where Milly chooses :)
Today, after we had all enjoyed some bacon butties he was secured to the dining room window for this year...
On to tree titivating!
after....Twinkly, terrific-ness :))
We used two strings of lights this year for added twinkle... We have a couple of options for the tree topper and this year Milly decided against the very colourful, bejewelled topper we have as one option and instead rushed off to customize the fairy :) Pop princess Ariana Grande ( Milly's idol ) has joined us for the festive season :)
We all enjoyed some Bucks fizz as we worked.
The sun room has some tinsel draped around with paper snowflakes we made quite a few years ago . We keep them stored flat in between some stiff card board so we don't have to keep making them...I made an advent decoration a few years ago. Tinsel with candy stripe raffia and little brown paper envelopes with the dates on. In each envelope a little bit of card with either c ( for chocolate ) or p ( for prize ) and we had a basket of little presents wrapped for her to open on those days.. We were late getting it down this year so it isn't in use but still adds nice decoration.
Time for a bath after all that hard work :)
Karma from Lush, bucks fizz and candles...Pretty blissful :))
Before we had Milly Alan and I had always had an artificial tree..
We decided when Milly was born that we would start some special family traditions and buying the tree together was one of them.
Every year Milly chooses a new bauble for the tree. This year we didn't get round to it together..I was in town yesterday and decided to get one as the tree was going up today..I choose this delicate glass Apple but Milly wasn't too impressed and would like to choose one herself :)
The red spotty heart one is her favourite..One year she chose three glass hearts - one for each of us :) It is so lovely to take all the baubles out each year and reminisce...
The house feels festive now and excitement for the holiday season is slowly mounting. Alan is lucky to get a fair bit of time off during the two weeks. Visits to family are planned and we are also planning some days out together - just the three of us - but we are equally looking forward to spending time snuggled up at home together. I am also looking forward to creating some new crochet decorations that we can use in the coming years :)
