The very first item I made was a granny square cushion for Milly's room. Well, technically, not the very first thing..After hour's and hour's and hour's of practice with you tube clip's I managed a piece of double crochet that ended up folded and sewn into a purse for Milly ;)
Alongside that I began the granny square cushion pattern that I had got from the workshop I attended.I remember being sooooo frustrated but equally determined and spent hours trying to perfect the little squares..Then I started a granny square that just kept growing...hours and hours sat watching television, perfecting tension and hold ( that became a throw which now lives with an on line friend :) ).
Eventually I 'got' it and then I wondered how it had taken me so long to 'get' it ;)) Things are always simple when you know how :)
I used cheap acrylic wool from Wilkinson's but I was so very proud of the end product :) I couldn't work out how to do buttons so I just used yarn and tied bows along the open side to close it.
Milly loved it and I then moved on to make one for her best friend Amy's Christmas present. A different design to perfect and a few more late nights watching you tube clips and practising. I loved the whole process even though it was so frustrating..this thing that looked so easy yet proved to be so fiddly :)
Milly's other best friend put an order in with her favourite colours so that became cushion number 3 :) I still hadn't perfected button closure...I didn't want to just put the buttons on the edge as it always seemed that they gaped and didn't look very good...I knew in my head how I wanted it to look but didn't have the knowledge to make it ...
A granny stripe lap throw was also created and I loved nothing better than being snuggled in the throw creating these cushion's :)
Then I began a cushion for the Sun room...
This one is still unfinished although it is in use. It has no closure at all and the ends have not been woven in...I finished it off differently - I attached both side's with a granny cluster then went round with a single crochet and was not happy with the way it looked.. I always meant to go back and finish it off..However I began the business course and things have moved pretty fast since then :)
I am really happy with this last cushion. It has the contemporary feel that I want my work to have and I fiddled and faffed and eventually made a button closure that I am very happy with..
What a difference a year - and a bit ;) - makes ......
