As it turned out today was a "take a load of pictures day".
Some days are like that!
I have an uncontrollable urge to take pics and share them. Luckily, Instagram fulfils that need :)
My main aim today was to finish off a pattern that I need to go in one of the kits.
I had started it a while ago... BES - before energy slump ;)
Ohh.... look how pretty instagram looks on the laptop.....Distractable?
Maybe a little :)
I also have a pile of work in progress that requires some attention...
But.... taking pictures overrode that requirement :)
The time came when I really had to buckle down and get some work done.
I got settled in my little corner and the hours flew by as I uploaded images, edited images, created a word document, wrote out the pattern ( trying to decipher the scribbled notes I took! Must get a larger notepad and take more time when recording them in future) trying to fit all the info and images neatly into *pages* to make the pattern flow. I have it all together now but it needs fine-tuning and prettifying with different fonts and borders and such. That is a job for another day though. One thing I did realise today ( apart from needing to take more time when writing the pattern out ) is, that if I am to sit for so long, I really need to get a cushion pad on the seat and a small cushion for my back!
As I am unable to sit for long periods of time, I break things up by doing little jobs so I can stretch. Throughout the day washing was hung out, floors were vacuumed, cat was fed, cat was let out, smoothie was made, dog was let out and let in again, lunch was made, washing was folded and put away, cat was let in, washing up was done, dog was let out and in again, cat was fed again!
I also wrapped a piece of material on the cushion in the back lobby to see if I could utilise an old pillowcase to make a new cover for it. Alan has just finished decorating the lobby white. The mirror, clock and picture frame ( it is a picture that Milly drew years ago of our cartoon family. I adore it and it makes me smile every day) were white wood but I repainted them last week with this lovely mellow green shade.
This space is just off the sun room and leads out to the back garden.
When we had the extension built ( when Milly was about 2 so.... 13 years ago now! WoW how time flies ) we decided that living space was more important and that we would make do with a smaller lobby. We maximised space by creating a curved wall - an idea seen at my Sisters house :) It works much better and gives more space in the area coming through from the kitchen than a normal, angled wall would have done and enabled it to be open plan through to the sun room.
As it is so bijou we had to think carefully about storage.
The cushion is on top of a cupboard that houses all Beauty's things, clean cushions and covers for her bed and towels for drying off after a walk. It was so tight that there was no way a full door would open so my dad cut the doors in half and capped the ends. The doors on the right open to a coat/shoe cupboard and the doors ahead lead to a compact but adequate loo:)
Another job I had hoped to get round to today was to begin a new shawl pattern for a kit. I have worked up some test pieces over the last month or so as I played around with stitches to get the look I have in mind. I began with a shell pattern and worked from there adapting it until I was happy with the way it looks. I am going to make it up in Bergere Eclipse and have decided to go with the shimmery blue Uranus to make up and photograph as I go for the pattern.
Another project I have had on the go for a while is Milly's bedroom furniture.
We purchased her bedside table, dressing table and a bookcase from a recycling unit about 5 years ago (I think in total they cost £60) She chose well and they are all really good solid pieces of furniture. In that time they have been sanded and painted a deep purple gloss - her first choice to go with her purple walls - then a couple of years later, when she wanted her bedroom a lighter shade, we sanded them and painted them all a light blue. Recently she decided to declutter and make her room easier to clean. As ideas flowed about what she wanted to do, the topic of painting the bedroom came up. In the end she decided that she would leave the walls white and have her posters up but asked if we could change the colour of her furniture. We have a lot going on at the moment and the thought of sanding and painting the furniture didn't fill us with joy. However we came up with the idea of decoupage that could be done in situ and bit by bit when time allowed. Her love of all things Marvel meant it was the first choice...wallpaper purchased online, pva glue from Wikos and away we went. I love the hours I have spent up in her room with her whilst we chat away and she educates me on Pierce the veil and other bands she loves!
No work done on it today though..Time ran away with me and energy did too.
I stopped work and packed away and sat with Milly to watch a bit of Supernatural.
Alan was working late and came home about 5.30 ( he is normally home at 3.15) we all sat together and as time came round to making tea I said it was a shame I had to get up as I had started this blog post and was really enjoying having the enthusiasm for writing and was really in the flow.
Milly said that I should continue and asked Al if he would go thorough with her and start the tea so I could finish what I was doing!
There are a number of things about that gesture that made my heart sing <3
Now, as Alan and Milly watch Holby city together, I am in the Sun room watching Kirstie's fill your house for free!
Might get a few more ideas ;))
Love and light to you all <3
