The fairy lights have found a home. the clock needs hanging up and the shelf needs a display but that can be worked round the lights. The table is now up in the middle of the room and as soon as I source a piece of furniture to store my packing equipment I can start working from here! Off shopping now to see if I can find some baskets to store accessories in.
Hello! Well, after a lie in this morning today has been filled with tax return info, car tax renewing and all manner of other interesting paperwork. a Spanish pork casserole is simmering away in the oven and we picked this little beauty up from my Sister. I needed a piece of furniture for the studio to put my kettle and teapot etc on. It needed to be a certain size to fit in a tight spot and it needed castors so I could move it out to get excess stock when I needed to. Paula mentioned about this unit sitting in her garage and miraculously it fits perfectly in the space! This week it will be painted using this chalk paint in a zingy Pumpkin shade the other table in the room will also be given a makeover with the same paint. I have a couple of chairs to paint but they will be white. I also have a whole load of tags to make up for orders as the new limited edition packs are due in this week and so far I've got 33 on the reserve list. I have another 67 packs should anyone be interested. I only managed a brief visit to the studio today but hope to get there tomorrow to get a little bit more done. Now I'm going to spend some time getting some ideas together for Sophie so we can move forward with the home page of the new website. It's all going on! xxx
Keeping busy at the studio. More accessories have found homes along the top of the bookcases in some little plastic baskets I found at Wilko. Only £2.50 for five. A lovely scented candle is burning (oriental wood) and I've taken a little time to think and plan. Not procrastination! Oh no :)
Cubby holes filled with chunky and hoping that when the builder comes to measure up tonight that the price will be right to add extra shelves in to the cubby holes for the smaller balls of wool. I have made a space for buttons to be displayed and just need some little bowls for them. I'm going home to start painting the trolley to put the all important tea and coffee things on
Studio shot of the day, a midnight blue ikea glass bowl bought in a charity shop last week for three quid, filled to bursting with colourful cotton.
I literally spent five minutes in the studio today! I whizzed in as I was whizzing to the post office to pick up some yarn for an order. I only have Stylecraft special dk at home now until that is moved over. I so wanted to stay but the orders were much more important. So, as there is no studio update to speak of, I thought I would share a picture of the start of a display I started the other day on the back shelving. it's a work in progress. A hot bath and an early night are required so I will say night night sleep tight xxxx
One of the garlands has different coloured flowers on the bunting and two sugar skull badges on each end with a dangling charm which has beads, including a sugar skull bead and a heart charm with a rose on. The other has tiny pumpkins crocheted on some of the flags and pumpkin buttons on the ends with a beaded decoration made with coordinating coloured beads and a pumpkin charm.
Today has been delightful but a busy one. It has included a meet up with old friends at Birdoswald. It was so lovely to see them and catch up. It was a three hour round trip then a quick visit home to answer emails and a quick bit of paperwork before coming to the studio to meet the builder to get the shelves done...yay! The tea trolley in all it's orange glory is in situ brightening up the space. As space is a a premium it is nestled under the eaves and I will have to work very carefully when making a cuppa so as not to knock myself out on the roof.
Just a quick studio update tonight after such a busy day yesterday the usual after effects occurred today. Thanks for all your orders today and for your lovely messages in the notes section. I am so pleased you are enjoying hearing about this journey and enjoy seeing the updates. I was going to walk to the studio today as Alan needed the car for work but the lovely Lisa came to see the studio today and gave me a lift. That meant I had a bit of energy left to fill up more stock now that the new shelves have been put in which makes it easier and neater to stack the smaller balls in. It was cosy in there tonight as the light faded and although I was shattered I did enjoy myself. A flying visit from Sandie and her daughter Emily added to the growing number of visitors to the studio.
Stylecraft in the studio! All standing to attention and looking good! I do love to work with cotton and intend to expand the range I offer over time. I had to take Milly to an unscheduled appointment today which took up most if the afternoon so time at the studio consisted of a brief trip this evening to pick up stock for orders and to work out with Alan the best way to plug everything in I need to but only have two plugs to take out each time I leave the studio. I need to make things as simple as possible so I don't forget anything! we managed to work it out and will implement it over the weekend. It's getting close now. Fiddly little jobs like sorting out all the overstocks behind the scenes. It is tight for space but I have a system worked out. Time will tell if it works :) xxxx
Just having a couple of hours filling shelves. I am so pleased I went ahead and added the extra shelf in the cubby holes. The quote worked out more than I had to spend and I initially decided against doing it. Then Alan said He had a stash of money! he saves two pound coins and they soon mount up! Some of that went towards the shelving. It makes displaying the small balls of wool easier and prettier and will make regular stock counts easier as well. Long term it will be well worth the extra cost. I should be able to bring the last of the yarn )Stylecraft special dk) over this weekend. Then there will be a few spaces left for some new lines to be added over the next month or so.
The view from the door. Still needs more work on the display on the back wall and eventually the table will be getting a piece of wood attached to the top to make it slightly wider and longer to make it a better size for workshops. It also needs a cover. The one I got was humongous and has been retuned. after a break for lunch at home I've done a bit of sorting of the overstock yarns and tidied round ready for the Stylecraft dk to come over and take it's place. Now to think about the best way to label everything for when I decide which days I will be open to the locals, or indeed anyone from further afield who wants to visit :) I had been thinking about getting a docking station so I could have music on my phone. Funds wouldn't stretch but Milly had a big sort out in her room and I helped her finish it off after lunch. She has gifted me her CD player with docking for my phone so I can have music on and charge it at the same time.
Another first in the studio today. My first meeting with a wool rep there. Michael from Rico designs brought some gorgeous new yarns to show me. Some were camera shy - not quite top secret but under cover and not ready for sharing However, this I can share with you. New shades in the Essentials cotton glitz range. Coming out early next year they are really fabulous shades. I thought they had a vintage feel to them. Sadly my picture doesn't do them justice. The shimmer is not in your face but it is evident and I think it will look amazing once it is knitted or crocheted up. As you would expect from the essentials cotton it feels beautifully soft. Sparkletastic yarn! I think I'll be putting in a pre order for them and adding the glitz range to the shop.
Bags and boxes and piles of yarn. Happy Sunday! stylecraft special dk in the studio! I hope to get it all in the bookcases and organise all the mail bags, tags etc so I can start packing here tomorrow. Working in a small space and wanting to keep it easy to work in whilst still looking good is a challenge but luckily I love this kind of challenge.
It's blowing a gale and tipping it down outside but it's lovely and cosy in here :) All jobs done that I'd planned to do. Many more jobs to do from a list a mile long! Home for a soak now though and they can wait til tomorrow.
So, there it is, the updates have now brought you up to date :)
Hope you have enjoyed catching up. I have had a great time sharing the progress.
I hope to be back soon with another chapter in the story.
