We are blessed with a lot of rooms in our home but could I find a clear area in good light to display products to photograph them easily and show them at their best? Erm..... the answer was no!
Each time I had to photograph anything it was a right kerfuffle :) Sooo searching around for the perfect spot and the dining room ( luckily where my workspace is ) had a great spot but the wall was cerise and the dark colour just didn't do the products any favours. I asked Alan how he would feel about painting the wall white and he said no problem :)
Having to do it on a budget we hoped we would find some paint at Impact housing ( they sell paint donated from people who no longer want it at very reduced prices and very often they have full unopened tins ) but alas on the times we went in they didn't have any white.
Alan went searching in the shed and found a half tin but that would only do half a wall. Not ideal but needs must and we could be waiting months before we were able to get some from Impact.. So this weekend, half the wall has been given four coats of paint and a set of Ikea drawers that I have had for many years were painted using the paint I got for my folding work table.
That meant I had a space to prettify today :)
We had two small adjustable spotlights that we had taken off the bookcases near my work table ( so I could store all my postage bags in boxes on the top ) so they came in very useful to add light as this room can be dark at times. We put one on the doorway . It pulls out and then folds flat when not in use and the other one went on the top of the tall bookcase...
Then it was time to hunt around for some items that would create a display. Natures beauty was a great start ;) The little candle bowl is actually a salt bowl from my late Nana - who taught me to crochet 40 odd years ago ;) - I love to have it out so that I see it every day and it never fails to evoke a memory of her....Today that memory was off the three of us ( my two younger Sister's and I ) sitting in the back of their mini on our way to the cinema. I think we were going to see Herbie rides again :))
Then I was able to utilise our twiggy tree that has been through a few incarnations..... beginning a couple of years ago as an Easter tree decorated by Milly and BF Amy :) Then it has been our Xmas display for a couple of years . More recently it has been high up on a bookcase in the sunroom gathering dust ;) Now, once I have sprayed it again, it will be used to display and photograph my hanging decorations :)
When I actually come to photograph things for the shop it is easy to move things to give a clearer space to ensure the pictures aren't cluttered...
So that area is almost ready for use.. Just need to decide on the placement of hooks etc...
You might think what a lot of bother for a few pictures ... I am a great believer in "if you are going to do a job, do it properly" :) If I want to sell on line I need to have images that appeal and look professional. Sometimes a picture can give a false image but I know that the items I am selling look better in real life so i need to capture them as best as I can with the hope that will encourage someone to buy them :)
I also managed to clear out some of the covered boxes in the small bookcase under this display and can now store all my finished products in them.
Now the next job on the to do list is to create some extra shelving for the bookcases where my wool, buttons etc are stored. I need six more and Alan hasn't any suitable wood to hand but is on the look out at car boot sales and the like ....My desk is full of half finished garlands, decorations, wool, paperwork that needs filing and images and plans that need pinning to the giant pin board that is in the design stages..This involves some wood Alan has in the shed to make a frame, some thin ply we should be able to take off the back of the bookcases and the cork tiles I got for the job ages ago!
Budget concious DIY :))
Oh and we will have to paint the other half of the wall ( which thankfully is mainly hidden behind a large bookcase ) at some point :)
The view of the other half of the room :)
Hoping the shelving and pin board can be sorted soon as with lack of storage this area is in a constant state of chaos :)
