In an attempt to learn more about effective selling on the huge machine that is Etsy, I have decided that a good move would be to do a bit of networking and have joined a few teams. One of them is a UK crafter treasury Team. We all make collections of the members products a couple of times a month which then can be viewed by a wider audience and it may be that people will reciprocate and feature your item in a treasury they make.
I have made a few.. They are quite time consuming but sitting here watching TV and searching through some beautiful makes is not a great hardship ;) I have decided to do them because I enjoy doing them and not with the expectation of any possible pay off....The latest one I created last night and is available to view here.... There is such a depth of products - only a few of them highlighted above - available from some very talented makers :)
I have also joined UK Handmade and a forum on there...
I think it is sometimes easy to get carried away with how easy it might be selling on line and believe that because your stuff is out there for millions to see that it is actually being seen by loads of people. Would be nice if that was the case and maybe in time if the product is good that may happen... The figures show that - initially - the truth is your actual audience is pretty small...
However I am sure there is a balance to be found because on line forums and such can drain the hours away and leave little time to actually produce anything ;)
Dipping my toe in the water and seeing how much can be done in concentrated bursts of activity :) Learning about SEO ( Search engine optimisation ) and thinking of other ways to promote the shop.
I will find out what works best for me and - as one of the aims for this business was to take a year or so to 'bed in' and find the products that I enjoyed making and that others would enjoy purchasing ;) - I have lot's of time to find a way that works for me..
