I decided to sort out the desk and bookcase this morning....I also started to fill the pin board. I cut out some inspiration from magazines. Lots of different images with colour combinations and styles that I like... I have printed out blank calendars for the next three months and will pin them up with all the jobs planned out up to Christmas...and then continue to fill the pin board with inspirational quotes and images...
So nice to have my candle burning and spend time here now the mountain of half finished jobs have been cleared :)
We sorted Milly's room out last weekend..The three of us spent the afternoon sorting bookcases and drawers of accumulated treasures from over the years..Some of them were let go and some made their way to the loft to stumble across in years to come :) We streamlined storage and I acquired some handy little baskets that I have put work waiting to be finished in. I have made use of the box that my candles came in ( Christmas gift last year! ) and it has my camera in with the lead and everything handy. I have used a mayonnaise jar padded out at the bottom to hold my scissors..Not that pretty though is it? This afternoon I scouted around for things to use and decided that I would use some PVA glue watered down and some acrylic wool to cover it.
Round and round getting very sticky but it was quite a nice way to spend time :) Wasn't long before it was all covered and then I added ribbon and a button to finish it off...A little ingenuity and a bit of time and a pretty holder for my scissors :) The glue will dry clear and won't be visible :)
I have also made use of other jars to store buttons, beads and charms in.. All you need to do is give them a good wash out and scrub the labels off and hey presto perfect storage:) Mayonnaise jars, Jam jars, choc spread jars, tiny sandwich spread jars and spice jars which are ideal for the tiny seed beads and itzy bitzy buttons :) I had plans to spray paint the lids but that may have to wait til I have more free time:) Ice cream tubs also make great storage for ribbons and the hemp I bought to make bracelets ( another one of those ideas that are in the waiting to happen zone ;)) ) In the future I will decorate the tubs somehow...
I did use some of the grant money ( received after attending the business course run by Britain's Energy Coast ) to pay for some storage from Poundstretcher.... I got some cardboard boxes to store the postage bags and the gift bags....I also bought some jars at a bargain price..The tiny little kilner style jars for the seed beads and larger ones that are perfect to put my cotton reels in. Plastic baskets were a pittance from Wilkinsons. The plastic boxes I store my yarn in were also from Wilkinsons..But the majority of my storage solutions have been free :)
The bookcases we already had, the table cost £25 from Impact housing and the shelf on it was an ikea one that had been gathering dust upstairs and with a little gentle coaxing to widen the metal clamp it fitted perfectly ;))
All in all a bargainous little corner :)
I sorted out the corner of the bookcase..Could really do with some more shelves in there but that will have to wait for a while as my DIY member of staff is otherwise engaged :)
We had this little Ikea laptop table in Milly's room but as she doesn't use it any more it made a perfect addition to my space :)
You can still see a little of the girls ( and one boy's ) art on the wall....We still have to cover the bottom of the pin board but have to get some cardboard big enough to cover it and then paint it white. The picture frame is another project idea waiting in the wings :)
I also spent time sorting invoices and bank details and filed everything away. So I now have a completely clear area.. For how long I wonder:)
