Plenty of beautiful places to visit but sometimes, we love to just wander the lanes around the village..
We have lived here for sixteen years and this home is all Milly has ever known. She LOVES this place... I have had itchy feet over the years we have lived here. Born and bred with a Dad in the forces we moved so many times that I cannot remember half the places we lived and after attending nine primary schools you would think I would want to be settled! It seemed that I couldn't settle though and always felt restless, with great excitement at the prospect of moving.... I am so glad that I wasn't able to convince my two team mates to move :) Living here for so long has enabled me to find peace and realise that I was running away and constantly trying to find something better. I have worked through a lot of stuff and understand myself so much more for having done so.....
We can go out of the village five ways and one of our favourite walks is to go left from home and down to Black eyed Bills wood..It became Black eyed Bills wood many, many years ago when toddler Milly would walk and tell stories and we would create them with her and our surroundings would become part of the story. The spooky looking wood became part of a long running story about Black eyed Bill.
As she grew older and wanted to go off piste Alan would cut across the farmers fields with her and enter the wood - sometimes in the dusky light when everything felt scary and seemed like a true adventure. One night, she wanted to go in the dark and the two of them set off with torches to explore the woods. Over the years long treks were undertaken with backpacks and provisions. One day they went a long way through the wood and found their special place a deep pool with overhanging branches where swimming happened, trees were climbed and picnics were eaten..
Yesterday Milly and I decided to set off and go a little way down the lane that leads to Black eyed Bills wood. First stop.... just outside the village, is the bench.....always known as our bench :) We both had phones with us. I took some pics and Milly connected with friends for a time as we chatted.
The view from our bench :)
Behind the bench is the lane...
Round past the stream and over a little bridge we turn the corner.
On the right just as the line of trees end is the gate to the field that leads to the wood.
Today we stopped off at the gate...the gate she has sat on and rested so many times over the years. the gate where she would sit and swing her welly clad feet and regale us with stories as we lent next to her on the gate..... we looked over at the wood and tried to remember the last time she went into them...Plans were made to visit soon with a friend and then we walked on down the road. My knowledge of 'My chemical romance' was expanded as we listed to their music on her phone and chatted. We ended up going further than we had initially intended. Then, turn round for the gentle stroll back home.....
Time to have a meal before we all headed out to see Spiderman 2 together. Home again about 10ish.....Milly and I watched Inception together. A very late night after a wonderful day filled with very simple pleasures. Fifteen year old Milly is every bit as interesting and entertaining to be with as she always has been <3
