In the last 14 years or so I have very much followed a holistic approach to my health and alongside massage and healing sessions I have regular appointments with a wonderful homoeopath.... both of these have helped me so much. I know there is a lot of controversy about the efficacy of Alternative/complimentary medicine/practices..Before seeing first hand how beneficial they are I was sceptical. There comes a point though - when you have been through all that alopathic medicine has to offer - and you are in a worse position than the one you started in that a willingness to give them a try overrides that scepticism...well it did in my case ;)
Migraines are a signal for me that I have stepped off the path and need to care for myself..I usually try an alternative method to alleviate the pain but on some occasions the pain is intense and the quick relief from the medication is needed... I have got out of the morning routine that helped so much with Yoga stretches and meditation. Not sure how that happens when the benefits are so great..it is a gradual decline... too cold in the mornings to get out of the snuggly warm bed when the aches and pains make it a much more appealing place...dark winter days dragging you down..cravings for stodgy comfort food...that feeling during the day that you have sooo many things that need your attention - even when I remember during the day about doing some breathing techniques or meditation it always seems to pop into my head when I am in the middle of something.. and then I forget again!
Anyhoo....today could have been a bit of a downer..because even though the pain has eased the after effects are not at all pleasant and to be honest when I eventually convinced myself to get out of bed it was not with a song in my heart ;)
However.... I had a talk to myself and made the choice to look for the positives today and celebrate the little things.
Sure enough there were some:)
I cracked my egg ready for poaching and lo and behold two sunny yolks :)
Have you tried the Jamie Oliver method? Line a ramekin with cling film, spray with a little oil and crack an egg in. Sprinkle some salt and pepper in and twist closed. Bring a pan of water to the boil and turn down to a simmer. Place the egg in the cling film parcel in and poach gently. You can see it change colour and then texture. Perfect poached eggs in a couple of minutes :)
Then these dropped through the door...So later this afternoon, once a few admin jobs are completed ( and the gas man has finished coming and going and hopefully sorted our hot water problem out ) I will be laying on the sofa snuggled under a blanket reading them:)
I was disappointed that I have had to change plans to go into town. I was going go to see Kay at Number Fifteen. I have a lap throw to show her to see if she will give it shelf space :)
Kay changes her window display regularly and I was so thrilled yesterday when I saw her picture on Facebook and one of my cushions was on the chair :)
I was also going to the wool shop...strangely I have never been to the local one..don't quite know why that has been the case but I was going to check it out and squish some yarn. Also on the agenda was a trip to the health food shop.
As the afternoon has gone on and the weather has worsened that disappointment has been eased and I am very grateful that the Migraine meant I didn't go out and get caught up in the howling wind and lashing rain!
I will go in the morning before I head in the other direction to Workington for an outing with Milly in the afternoon...a bit of shopping and her choice of a trip to Mcdonalds for a frappachino... possibly the cinema.... depending on what is on...Leaving Alan to enjoy an afternoon of rugby :)
